The legendary Portuguese footballer, Luis Figo, who once lifted the Ballon d’Or himself wayback in 2000 and knows what it takes to win the award, has shared his unpopular opinion about who should win the 2025 Ballon d’Or.
In what many fans think is surprising, Luis Figo’s Ballon d’Or prediction for 2025 brushes off all the hype surrounding Lamine Yamal and Ousmane Dembélé being top contenders to win the award.
After a successful season for both Yamal and Dembele, the football legend thinks that another PSG player should win the award ahead of the two, though he admires them both.

Who does Figo think should win the award?
The Portuguese legend believes that Vitinha is also a strong candidate to win the Ballon d’Or award after having a very successful season with both club and country.
Paris Saint-Germain won the treble for the first time in their history under coach Luis Enrique, and Vitinha was an integral part of this incredible team.
His goal contributions and ability to dominate the midfield, even against big teams, have helped PSG become a formidable side against all their opponents.
As a midfielder last season, he played 55 matches, scored 8 goals, and assisted 4 times across all competitions.
He was named PSG’s Player of the Month in May, averaging match ratings around 6.3/10 and completing 97% of his 121 passes in the Coupe de France final.

In the Champions League, Vitinha topped the charts for completed passes; only João Neves covered more ground than him.
He also went on to help his country, Portugal, to win the Nations League. When you consider all these factors, Luís Figo thinks that Vitinha should have a better chance of winning the Ballon d’Or award ahead of Dembélé and Lamine Yamal.
The table below shows Vitinha performances from last season to the ongoing Club World Cup.
Competition | Appearances | Goal Contributions |
Ligue 1 | 29 | 6 (5 Goals, 1 Assist) |
UEFA Champions League | 17 | 4 (2 Goals, 2 Assists) |
Club World Cup | 3 | 2 (1 Goal, 1 Assist) |
Coupe de France | 5 | 0 |
Trophée des Champions | 1 | 0 |
Total | 55 | 12 (8 Goals, 4 Assists) |

Vitinha is not even close to the award. Dembele should win it. He deserves it more than anyone
