Manchester United‘s performance in the Manchester derby was nothing but spectacular, even though fans were having different opinions about the team.
It was Michael Carrick’s first match as an interim manager, and he had a point to prove and delivered the win against Manchester City at Old Trafford for the first time since January 2023.
In the game, United attacks were more dangerous when close to the opposition’s 18-yard box, and they had many chances to even take the lead in the first 10 minutes.
After many dangerous attacks and having two goals disallowed by the video assistant referee, Bryan Mbeumo opened the deadlock in the 65th minute through an assist by captain Bruno Fernandes.
In the 75th minute, Patrick Dogu scored from a cross from Cunha to widen the advantage even further against City.
Here are the TNnews Sports Manchester United player ratings in their electrifying encounter with Man City at Old Trafford.
Senne Lammens – 6.5
Lammens did a fantastic job in the goalpost for Manchester United. He made three crucial saves that could easily change the momentum of the game even in the first half. His passing and reflexes were all on point as he got his first clean sheet in about five matches.
Diogo Dalot – 5.5
Dalot did a fantastic job against Jeremy Doku in the first half. Though he wasn’t at his best in the Manchester derby, the kind of intensity he brings into the game is enormous.
Harry Maguire – 7.5
Harry Maguire, as always, delivered in particular a performance against their better rivals at Old Trafford. He just came from an injury, but looking at the kind of intense tackles and interceptions he made during the game, nobody would think that he just returned from injury. He did a fantastic job at the back, making sure that Man City did not get any opportunity to score.
Lisandro Martinez – 7
Martinez was also solid at the back for Manchester United. His interception against Haaland in the early stages of the second half helped maintain Manchester United’s advantage over City. His overall performance was absolutely outstanding; therefore, he has been rated 7.
Luke Shaw – 6.5
Luke Shaw also did well. Even though it wasn’t the best that we know he can do, what he did in the first half was absolutely fantastic and thereby has been rated 6.5 by the TNnews Sports team.
Casemiro – 6.8
Casemiro, with the experience he has, has maintained the stability of Manchester United midfield. Against Rodri, Bernardo Silva, and Phil Foden, Case rose to the occasion with his experience. Interceptions, clearance, and passing were so good in both halves.
Kobbie Mainoo – 6.0
Kobbie Mainoo, with his ball-carrying ability in the midfield, was fantastic. He can only get better with time.
Bruno Fernandes – 8.5
The capitano stepped up his game as he always does against Man City. His assist enabled Manchester United to score the first goal in the 65th minute by Bryan Mbeumo. Aside from his breaking line, short and long passes were outstanding. He was seen also giving commands when needed as a captain of the Reds. He earns 8.5 from us for his overall outstanding performance.
Bryan Mbeumo
The Cameroonian international was fantastic against Pep Guardiola’s side. Again he scored, making him the top scorer of Manchester United in all competitions this season.
Amad – 6.5
Amad did a fantastic job on the left flanks of the Man United attack. Whenever he gets closer to the edge of City’s 18-yard box, he looks more dangerous. He earns 6.5 from the TNnews Sports rating.
Patrick Dorgu – 7.9
Patrick Dorgu was a secret weapon for Manchester United. He played as an LWF instead of his LB position. His crossing was on point, and the intensity he brings when Man United loses the ball and is on the hunt to recover was encouraging. He earns 7.9.
Substitutions
Matheus Cunha – 6.5
He played a fantastic game and nearly got an assist after Mason Mount converted his cross in the 85th minute, but it was overturned by VAR.
Manuel Ugarte – 5.5
Ugarte came in as a replacement for Casemiro in the 81st minute. He did well but could have done better.
Mason Mount – 4.5
Came in just 3 minutes before full time. He didn’t get enough time to show what he’s got, but he nearly scored a goal to make it 3-0.
Ayden Heaven – 4.5
Heaven also came in with so little time to the end of the game. But we already know what he can do. So with time and game time, he can do better.
