Newcastle United Table Improved £40m Bid for Wissa as Transfer Drama Intensifies

Newcastle United table improved £40m bid for Wissa as DR Congo striker remains eager to secure a transfer to St James’ Park, Sky Sports reports.

The Magpies have offered a lot more, now structured as £35 million plus £5 million in performance-related add-ons, a rise from their previous £30 million proposal that was turned down almost on the spot by the West London club.

But sources close to the negotiations indicated that Brentford are now asking for something over £60 million – a major gap between the two clubs that puts the deal in jeopardy altogether.

The 28-year-old striker has made it clear throughout the summer that he is furious with Brentford’s resistance to sell and believes there was an understanding he could leave this summer.

There has been no change in Wissa’s will to make the move to Tyneside, though one club has stalled the other for long.

The striker, who netted 19 goals in the Premier League last season, has even been providing dialogue playing in the Champions League football with Newcastle.

This has led to the occurrences where Wissa had flown home from Portugal for Brentford’s pre-season camp, threatening not to train or play for the club again unless the permit to leave was given.

There had been a temporary thaw in relations which allowed him to return to team training, but his desire to leave remains intact.

In the last week, there was an intensification in the whole situation as Wissa deleted all his pictures connected with the club on his Instagram account, clearly making known his feelings regarding the position of the club on the matter of his exit.

The real breakthrough in this transfer saga came with Brentford wrapping up the £42 million signing of Dango Ouattara from Bournemouth, their record acquisition.

Ouattara’s move could now help ensure Wissa gets his wished transfer away from Brentford, as the Burkina Faso international is viewed as the direct replacement for the departing striker.

Newcastle United are now preparing to sign Yoane Wissa, with the club aiming to speed up negotiations as soon as possible following the signing of Ouattara.

Summer of Change at Brentford

Wissa’s potential departure would represent another major blow for Keith Andrews’s team, which has already had a rough summer in the transfer business.

Brentford has lost head coach Thomas Frank to Tottenham Hotspurs, captain Christian Norgaard to Arsenal,  and top scorer Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United this summer.

The mass departure of key players and coach has brought into question the whole style of direction the club is going, and Wissa feels that promises made to him about his future have not been honored.

The striker believed that once Brentford got suitable replacements, they would have no qualms in letting him go.

Newcastle’s Strategic Plan

For Newcastle, securing Wissa would mean much more than just adding goals to their attack.

The striker’s Premier League experience and proven ability at the highest level would give immediate impact for Eddie Howe’s side as they build toward another Champions League campaign.

Wissa emerged as a target for Magpies after Liverpool beat them to signing Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, forcing the club to reassess their attacking options for the upcoming season.

Newcastle’s pressure on Wissa despite refusals from the outset elaborates more on their belief that Wissa would be the real missing part in their attacking set-up.

However, in the absence of a resolution to the ongoing impasse, Newcastle would not hesitate to explore other targets.

Financial Standoff Continues

There is a valuation mismatch that stands primarily in the way of this transfer proceeding.

While Wissa is asking to leave the club for something around 40 million, it appears Brentford’s price is likely to fall south of 50 million, though they had quoted that number to Newcastle before.

The recent increase in demands from the West London side has only complicated negotiations.

Brentford’s position seems to have strengthened post-influx of funds from player sales, along with their will to stay high in the Premier League.

But the club has to balance their financial desires with the need to keep a player who could become disgruntled and has so outspokenly declared his intentions.
