Neymar in Tears as Santos FC Survive Dramatic Relegation Battle

An unbelievable late goal has seen Santos FC defeat Palmeiras by a goal to nil (1-0), securing an important win as they are out of the relegation zone.

Neymar was seen full of tears as his boyhood club is now out of the danger zone. The results also mean that Flamengo are now top of the Brasileirao Betano table after their win against Sport Recife. Check the live scores here on our page

With just five games left, ‘Flamengo’ is now leading the league with 71 points, three ahead of ‘Verdao.’ Meanwhile, Peixe have escaped the last four and still remain in danger.

Palmeiras’ side was a little bit weak due to the international break, as many of their players went to represent their countries. As a result of that, Santos took advantage of that and played their hearts out. Santos was dominant as Neymar stepped in as a false nine to help his club win. 

After minutes of constant pressing and dominance of the game, they had the deadlock broken when Argentinian Benjamin Rollheiser beat goalkeeper Carlos Miguel for Santos to take the lead.

Palmeiras coach, Abel Ferreira, had to make a lot of key changes after missing most of his key players due to international duty. Key players like Gustavo Gomez and Ramon Sosa, Emiliano Martinez, Facundo Torres, Joaquin Piquerez, and Vitor Roque were all out on international duty to represent their countries.

This match, though, has helped Santos escape the relegation but also seemed to be the gateway for Flamengo to clinch the top of the league.

Palmeiras and Flamengo will play the Copa Libertadores final on November 29th in Lima. A match that will undoubtedly give a lot of moments to the fans. With just 3 points ahead of Verdao, Flamengo will have to keep going without a slip, as Verdao will be looking for a way to catch up.
